I’ve been doing a lot of writing lately – journal entries, short memoir-like pieces, poetry – but no blog posts, even though my goal is to post something at least once a week.
This sounds like a lament and, in some ways, it is. But it’s also a recognition that I am writing every day. And that I’m writing in different genres. Even when I feel stuck, I still write. A sentence of any length on any day is one more sentence on that day than the day before. I call that progress. I call that: building a habit.
I’ve been doing a lot of brain dump and journal writing on a site called 750words.com. I used to write on here years ago and then, for some reason, I stopped. I discovered it again recently and decided to give it another try.
I’m doing the monthly challenge which is to write 750 words every day of the month. If you miss a day, or write fewer than 750 words by midnight local time, your name goes on the wall of shame. (This part I don’t like.) However, if you write 750 words every day of the month you get public recognition and you can set a personal reward for yourself, as well.
Again, although most of my writing has been about reflecting on experiences, emotions, etc., I can see how using this site to explore different genes, including writing a draft of a blog post, would be beneficial. In fact, that may be how I get back on track to publish a weekly blog post.
