Dear me,
This is a tough year.
You feel like a brand new teacher.
You are learning new technologies and new ways of teaching in an online environment.
You are creating a community in a virtual space.
You are doing what you thought you’d never do.
And, you are loving the time spent with students. So much joy!
So, cut yourself some slack.
Give yourself some grace.
You are doing the best you can.
You are rocking it! (Even on the days when you feel like a failure.)
You are resilient.
You show up as your best self every day.
You are powerful.
That’s it.
Best,
Me

Elisa, thank you for writing these words to yourself. I needed to read them, and I need to write them, for myself. I tell myself some of these words some of the time, but the “hardness” of it all often overwhelms my emotions, as did reading this SLICE( in a good way). I think I just needed a good cry. Thank you my friend…you and I are rocking it!

Aww, Donnetta! Didn’t mean to make you cry, but I know what you mean. It’s hard to admit truths to ourselves, but the “letter to myself” format helps me do this authentically, if you know what I mean. I agree! We’re rocking it. Hugs!

Thanks for the reminder to go easy on myself! I love the idea of writing letters to yourself!

You’re welcome! Writing letters to myself is not my original idea. One of the members of my online writing group did this every day this summer and has inspired the rest of us to try it out. It is a very revealing exercise.
