On any given Sunday afternoon,
you will find me lamenting the start of a new week.
On any given Sunday afternoon,
you will find me wondering what happened to all of the things I wanted to get done.
On any given Sunday afternoon,
my most dreaded time of the week,
you will find me wishing for another day
to do all of the things I was sure I would be able to do if only…
On any given Sunday afternoon,
you will find me frantically trying to get ready for another work week.
On any given Sunday afternoon,
I will try, but ultimately fail, to pretend this isn’t just
another given Sunday afternoon.

I enjoy the repetition, as it creates a sense of dread for the future and regret for the past; I imagine it as a line you create down the middle of a Sunday where you can go back and you can go forward. It makes me wonder what created this imaginary line in the first place and what we might do to erase it.

I think those imaginary lines are societal creations. We are taught to dread the start of a new week because somehow working and resting have definite boundaries. There are times when working is restful and resting is work. Thoughts?

I love the format you used, especially how you tied it all together at the end.
By the way, I feel the same exact way on most Sunday afternoons too.

Thank you for your comment, Julie! I feel like I should explore this emotion more. It is so strong sometimes.

Oh, this is so good! the repetition is the teacher’s life! I still feel it on Sunday afternoon, even though I’m retired and only tutoring part time. I think it just gets into our blood. This writing was so strong.

Thank you for your kind words. Some things never change, even when you retire.

I really love this. I am experiencing my Sunday night blues as I write this. I think I’m ready for tomorrow, but after I write this I will go check my plans one more time just to make sure.

Maybe that’s why someone started #CelebrateMonday on social media to help people conquer the Sunday blues. LOL!

Oh, I can really relate to this! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ended up “wondering what happened to all of the things I wanted to get done” and “wishing for another day”. Weekends are just too short! ~JudyK

So true, Judy! I wonder if having more time would make a difference, though. When I’m on vacation I have a dozen plans and somehow do everything but those. LOL!
